Let me introduce myself…
My name is Leon but some people call me ‘Sparky’. I’m a photographer from the beautiful city of Utrecht, located in the lowlands of the Netherlands. Ever since I got my hands on my father’s camera, during a vacation in the south of France, I was hooked. I’ve always felt connected to nature, I’m the happiest when I’m surrounded by beautiful landscapes during a nice hike, so it made sense when my photography was focussing on landscapes. One of the best feelings I’ve ever had was looking through the camera’s ‘eye’, trying to capture the beautiful mountain range I was seeing. Absolute magic.
I started to be more serious about photography after I went to South America, the beauties of that region cannot be described in words, only in images. Unfortunately I found that my photographs were not that good and, at that very moment, decided that I needed to take this more seriously. After doing workshops and getting tips from YouTube I was getting better, I just needed to get more hours of photography to experiment and get familiar with all things photography. By doing so I noticed that I didn’t just want to do landscape photography, I like diversity so I wanted to do more than just that,
My other big love in live is music, whether it’s listening to music or creating music, it just makes me happy. I noticed that I was visiting concerts more and more often, so I decided to bring my camera with me. I write articles for a Dutch music e-zine, so I’m able to get tickets and photo-passes for some of the concerts that I’d like to visit. This is a golden combination as I can combine my two passions. I just love to go to a concert of a small band where I can get close ot the artists and capture the special moments.
As you can see today, there are multiple types of photography that I do. I don’t like to restrict myself to one certain type of photography, even though it might be better commercially. What would the world be without diversity? If we were all the same, what would be the fun in that?
Expect to see more from me, I’m not done yet.
